Calcium rich Ragi Till Khakhra


Ragi or Nachni is rich in calcium and including it as part of the daily diet helps build strong bones. These crisp ragi khakhras are enjoyable to eat and also beneficial for kids as well as elderly!!

Preparation Time: 10 mins
Cooking Time: 15 mins
Makes 8 khakhras


Ingredients:

1/2 cup ragi (nachni /red millet) flour
1/2 cup wholewheat flour (gehun ka atta)
2 tbsp roasted sesame seeds(till)
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1/2 tsp chilli powder
Salt to taste
2 1/4 tsp oil for kneading and cooking
Wholewheat flour (gehun ka atta) for rolling

Method:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and knead into a firm dough, using enough warm water. Keep aside for 10 minutes.
  2. Knead again using ¼ tsp of oil and divide it into 8 equal portions.
  3. Roll out each portion into a  thin circle, using a little wheat flour for rolling.
  4. Heat a non-stick tava  and cook each khakhra on a slow flame using ¼ tsp of oil till pink spots appear on both the sides.
  5. Continue cooking the khakhra on a slow flame, while pressing with a folded muslin cloth till it turns crisp and brown on both the sides.
  6. Yummy nutritious khakhras are ready.
  7. Serve immediately or store in an air-tight container.
